Remote Working, Bandwidth, and Adapting to the New Normal with Todd Miller.

In Episode 17 of What The Teck, we interview Todd Miller, V.P., Product with Nitel, on remote working as it relates to networks, bandwidth constraints, and what IT managers should be doing in this new normal to address these issues.

Todd sheds light on how businesses have been operating during the covid pandemic. As a result of covid, many organizations have changed the way they do business including work from home policies. Organizations in legal, car dealerships, finance, and retail have all been challenged to change the way they get work done since March 2020. Todd also discusses security challenges, lack of situational awareness, and risks associate with remote workers.

Platforms such as Teams, Webex, RingCentral, Zoom have allowed schools and businesses to extended business capabilities to employees' homes with multiple platforms including SDwan - software-defined networking in a wide area network.

We also ask Todd why networks are slow or congested and why remote workers would have broadband challenges even with a fast internet connection. And with upwards of 30 million workers conducting business at home, with video, the carriers' network are burdened with traffic that did not exist prior to the covid pandemic and thus contributing to congestion, especially at peak times. And when an average home has multiple devices on wi-fi, smart t.v.'s, laptops and kids doing online classes most homes may not have had sufficient bandwidth to allow for all devices and users to have the capacity required to stream 4k video.
