Tips from An Executive Recruiter on How to Ace Your Next Virtual Job Interview, Sally Thornton
Posted by Global Teck Worldwide on 21st Oct 2021
How do you prepare for an online interview for my dream job? What equipment do you need for a video interview?
Remote work has changed the landscape of job interviews and recruitment. People have left old jobs to work for companies whose hybrid work model supports their individual goals. Competition to apply for jobs has always been tough; but this time, interviews have evolved into something very different.
Going virtual isn’t the only thing that’s changed - employers’ and job applicants’ standards have, as well. We’ve proved to be adaptable but to what extent? What else are our dream jobs looking for from us?
For this episode of #WhatTheTeck, we’ll be joined by the founder and CEO of Forshay, Sally Thornton, to give us advice on how to ace a job interview on Zoom or other video call platforms, like Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, WebEx, and many more.
Forshay is a company that’s been in the human resource field for more than a decade, specializing in executive recruitment, as well as taking the lead in championing inclusion and diversity. Sally is the perfect expert to tell us on what employers are looking for in an employee!
Another question comes to mind: how do you stand out in a job interview? Simple -- tell your own story! This is an absolute game-changing secret for job interviews. Don’t just describe yourself - tell a story that demonstrated your best attributes and achievements so that you can reveal your character to the interviewer!
Another of Sally’s best career advice for adults is not to get stuck in a “success bias”. According to this concept, it’s when you’ve achieved a goal and repeat the same steps for it. When you get stuck in success bias, sometimes you stop thinking outside the box. So if you’re one of your company’s leaders and you want to know how to manage remote teams effectively, don’t stop innovating!
This ties in with what job skills employers are looking for - more than the flexibility we gained as remote workers, showing how you adapt and innovate in various situations can prove to be valuable to the company you’re applying to! Just remember one thing: performance matters a lot to hiring managers!
There’s so much more we can learn from Sally especially about the right equipment to use for video interviews! So be sure to catch this video on What The Teck for more tips for video job interviews and even leadership tips for managers!
